Cover Story!

When you walk into a book store, what type of book catches your eye? Is it one with an interesting title or one with a cool photo on the cover? Creating a cover page for your photo book is a very important job because you're going to be looking at this page the most! Technology

I recently completed a layout for a challenge at the Digichick, to scrap what we are thankful for.  Right now, I am SO grateful for the advances in technology of the past two decades.  This week I celebrated by 15th Anniversary long-distance.  My husband is on a one-year deployment to the Middle East and yet, thanks to technology, we have been closer than ever. 

When we first started dating, all we had was snail mail and very primitive e-mail to get us through our separations.  We wrote a ton of letters and waited patiently for responses to our questions or comments.  Mail usually took a good couple weeks to reach each other, but it was better than nothing.  I still enjoy going back and reading those letters and memories.

Now we have Skype and not only can we send instant messages, but we can talk and even video-chat from thousands of miles apart and for no cost--if you don't count the Internet fees, computer, iPad. . . How fantastic it's been to "talk" to my husband nearly every day.  To catch up on our lives and share those little things that would be meaningless in a letter arriving two weeks later.  It's really helped with the loneliness and separation being able to be so "close".  I happy too that this layout was featured on Log Your Memory.  I hope it inspires others or gives those with an upcoming deployment hope that even though miles may separate you, you can still be so close to your loved ones.
As such, I had a WONDERFUL anniversary dinner "with" my husband the other night.  I took the iPad to our local base restaurant and thanks to the free wi-fi there, we were able to enjoy a meal together.  He had lunch, I had dinner.  We talked, laughed, made plans for the future.  It was amazing.  I got some looks, but it also made me wonder why others haven't done this.  How cool is it that with a little technology we can all be so close?

Digital Scrapbook Day Round-up

What a fantastic weekend!  And it's not even over yet when you consider timezone changes.  The sales have been phenomenal, wonderful games and challenges.  Just  a great way to spend a rainy weekend and fortunately we had no plans to be anywhere too.  I think the winner this year though was the grab bags.  I think I bought six or so:

I have also joined Val's team from geniaBeana who is guesting at DigiChick this month.  The past couple of months I've been using her styles a lot and have come to love her designs.
